MRS J. K. PIERCE
Mrs. J. K. Pierce passed away at her home on East Howard street, February 29th, 1920, after having been an invalid for fifteen years. Funeral services were held at the family home on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Ensign pastor of the Presbyterian church of Hopkinton, conducting the services. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.Lucy Frances Smith was born in Illinois, January 20th, 1844. Her mother passed away when she was a mere infant. Her father, the Rev. Addison Smith, founder of the Baptist church of the Bay Settlement, came to the county in an early day, and she was taken into the home of L. D. Cross, near Monticello. In this home she grew to young womanhood. She was married to J. K. Pierce on February 26th 1866. For many years they lived on a farm in the south part of the county, and in Milo township. About thirty - five years ago they came to Manchester, which has been their home ever since.
She is survived by her husband, who cared for her during the many years of illness with singular devotion and fidelity, and one brother, Erastus Smith, of Delhi; a half-brother, former county treasurer, C. E. Smith now of Ridgefield, Washington. One child was born to them in 1873, and lived to the age of nine years.
Mr. Pierce has the profound sympathy of a large circle of friends in the great sorrow that has come to him because of the death of his wife.
