Funeral services for James F. Boyd were held at the Edgewood Congregational Church Sunday with the Rev. Austin Eberle officiating. The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. W. L. Feller, pastor of the Methodist Church. Two appropriate vocal numbers were given by Misses Audry and Janice Luse with accompaniment by Miss Joyce Preston. Casket bearers were Duncan MacTaggart, R. C. Norris, George Barr, Al Stamp, Worthy Robinson and Howard Glass. Interment was in the Edgewood Cemetery.
James F. Boyd was born near the village of Otisville, Elk Township, Clayton County, Iowa, March 15, 1857, the son of Alexander Boyd and Martha A. Appleton. Soon after the birth of James, the home was established west of Littleport, where the son lived until his marriage on September 10, 1881 to Miss Carrie Mason. The young couple bought a small farm adjoining that of his parents where they remained until March 1, 1897 when they moved to the farm now owned by Mrs. Mary Hesner. a short distance west of Edgewood. After residing there for a number of years, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd moved to Edgewood where they occupied premises now owned by Marcel Perrinjaquet. They also lived in Strawberry Point and for a short time in Arlington.
In 1920 a home was purchased in Ontario. California. Mrs. Boyd became ill in 1924 and has constantly been cared for in a hospital. Since 1935 Mr. Boyd made his home with his son at Northwood, Iowa. Seven weeks before his death he came back to Clayton County with his daughter, Mrs. Rupert Glass and made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Moser at Strawberry Point where he could be near his old friends and acquaintances. Here his death occurred September 14th.
He was the last survivor of the family of Alexander Boyd which consisted of four sons and two daughters. His own family consisted of three sons and three daughters. One daughter, Annie, died in 1901. Those living are M. L. Boyd of Northwood, Iowa, Ray O. Boyd of Nevada, Iowa, Mrs. Virgie Matson of Virginia, Minn., Mrs. Rupert Glass of Dundee, and Oakley Boyd of Ontario, California.
There are 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.Mr. Boyd was a man of temperate habits. He originally united with the Church of Christ and in later years attended other churches, He was affiliated with the Modern Woodmen at Strawberry Point. --- Press Journal
