Long Years of Suffering Ended Tuesday Evening For Mrs. Bertha Gienapp.

Bertha Mary Gienapp, nee Reggentin, was born as the daughter of August and Sophia Reggentin on September 10, 1864, at Heinrichswalde, Mechlenburg, Germany. Being born in a Christian Hom her parents brought her to the Lord in Holy Baptism and she became achild and heir of God soon after her birth. She received her religious instructions as a child, being confirmed in the Lutheran church of her homeland at the age of 14. On October 25, 1882, she was united in marriage with Mr. Fred William Gienapp. To this union 11 children were born. In 1883 the young couple came to the United States to establish a new home. Upon reaching this country, they came directly to Delaware County and started farming. Most of their framing years were spent on a farm in River Valley.

"We must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God" This truth was a common Christian experience of the departed. The angel of death saddened the home of the deceased when her husband was taken from her on February 21, 1914. And again sorrow and grief were experienced in later years through the death of her two daughters, Mrs. Ida Philipp and Mrs. Minnie Hugh.

After the death of her husband the departed continued to make her home with her sons on the home place in River Valley.

In the year 1923 she moved to town to spend a quiet evening of life. But her quiet evening of life was frought with many afflictions and heartaches. "He that taketh not his cross and followeth after Me is nor worthy of Me" The good Lord also permitted the departed toexperience this blessed truth. It pleased the almighty God to place a cross upon her in the form of a paralytic stroke. For seven long years she patiently endured and proved her faith in the Savior by remaining steadfast even unto the end. ....

Those left to morn are the following children: Mrs. Henry Burrack, Rudolph and Paul Gienapp all of Hopkinton; Mrs. Charles Wendt and Mrs. Harry Harder of Delhi and Mrs. Alfred Pierce of springville, Five children preceeded the mother in death. Also left to mourn is the only living sister, Mrs. Pfalsgraf of Dubugue. she also leaves to mourn 20 grandchildren, other relatives, fellow members of her church and a host of friends. The departed reached the age of 75 years, 8 months and 5 days. May she rest in peace until the great day of the Lord to be united with her loved ones.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 1 o'clock form the home and at 1:30 form St. John's Lutheran church. Both services will be in charge of the pastor, Rev. J.A. Pannkuk. Interment will be made in the Earlville cemetery. Hopkinton Leader
