Thays E. "Curly" Manwiller, 82, of 2905 E Ave. NE, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, in his home following a sudden illness. Services, with military rites: 9 a.m. today, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Graveside services: 11:30 a.m. today, Fairview Cemetery, Earlville. Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. today at the chapel. Arrangements with Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.

Survivors include two daughters, Kay Bernau and husband Bill of Iowa City and Sharon Rosenberg and husband Harry of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Jerry Manwiller and wife Sandra of Granger, Iowa, Larry Manwiller and wife Ursula of Valley Center, Kan., and Gary Manwiller and wife Pauline of Ridgeway, Mo.; a brother, Floyd of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Anna Mae Henry of Marshalltown; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Neville, Alpha and Arnal; and a sister, Camilla.

Thays was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Riceville, Iowa, to Elzia and Effie Stickley Manwiller. He married Marjorie Lewis on Sept. 4. 1938 in Manchester, Iowa. She died in 1978. He was a foreman at Century Engineering from 1939 to 1981. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A memorial fund has been established. Military rites by VFW Post 788.
