Vivian M. Powell, daughter of Phillip and Esther Hunt Schmitz was born March 15, 1923 at her parents farm south of Earlville. She graduated from Earlville High School in 1940. On June 18,1946 she married Donald Powell in Earlville. They lived in Winthrop for 31 years where Vivian worked as secretary and receptionist for the East Buchanan Telephone Coop. In Feb 1984, she and Don retired to Hot Springs Village, AR.

Vivian was a member of the Earlville Congregational United Church of Christ, Winthrop Legion Auxiliary and the Village Women's Club of Hot Springs Village.
Vivian died at the Americana Health Care in Waterloo, IA on May 20, 1990 following a lengthy illness. Burial at Fairview Cemetery in Earlville.

Surviving are her husband, Donald, one son, Douglas of Ames, one daughter, Mrs. Craig (Nancy) Schmeiser of Cedar Falls, five grandchildren, her mother Esther Schmitz of Earlville and one brother, Howard, of Earlville.
