She was born on March 4, 1947, in Dubuque, daughter of Willis and Edna (Woellert) Apel. Ginger attended local schools, graduating from Dubuque Senior High School in 1967.

Following high school, Ginger worked at the Dubuque Community School District and John Deere Dubuque Works, where she met her husband of 41 years.

Ginger and her family lived in rural Colesburg for 18 years while farming. She was a member of Colesburg United Methodist Church while living in that area.

Surviving are her husband, Roger Kritz; two children, Keith (Jennifer) Kritz and Rebecca (Jason) Loney; three grandchildren, Jacob Kritz, Connor Loney and Brayden Loney; two sisters, Toni Burns and Bonnie (Harvey) Horstman; seven nieces; and two nephews.
