HOPKINTON, Iowa -- Jack Recker, 60, of Hopkinton, died Friday, July 29, 2011, at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, with the Rev. Al Polito and the Rev. Keith Birch officiating. Burial will be in the Sand Springs Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

John Robert Recker was born on March 12, 1951, in Monticello, son of Gilbert and Katherine (Hosch) Recker. Jack attended Sacred Heart School, graduating with the class of 1969. He then attended Kirkwood Community College for two years and graduated. Jack also was part of the Iowa National Guard engineering battalion for seven years.

He married Pamela Cooper on Sept. 14, 1973, at Immaculate Conception Church in Sand Springs.

Farming was Jack's life, and he was known as the "Jack-of-all-trades."

Surviving are his wife, Pamela; two children, Cory (Emily) Recker and Carrie (Tim) Fellinger, both of Hopkinton; eight grandchildren, Marissa, Karli, Lydia and Halle Recker, Tanner, Quinton, Madison and DeLainy Fellinger; "adopted" granddaughter, Taryn Kromminga, of Monticello; "adopted" son, Joe Heyer, of Springville; two sisters, Lynn (Bob) Rollinger, of Hopkinton, and Beth (Pat) Paul Robins; a brother, Dan Recker, of Manchester; his mother-in-law, Patricia Cooper Tindal; a sister-in-law, Peg (Ron) Arduser, of Monticello; brothers-in-law, Bill (Kathy) Cooper and Kevin Cooper, of Monticello; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sally Brimmigham; and his father-in-law, Dean.
