Joseph Hermann Dies -
Joseph Hermann, 85, a retired Delaware County farmer and beekeeper for 60 years, died December 29, 1973 in Delaware County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Monday, December 31, 1973, at 1:30 p.m. in the Bohenkamp Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernest Hayhow officiating. Burial was made in Oakland Cemetery.
The son of William and Mary Kiebler Hermann, he was born December 31, 1887, in Dubuque County. He received his education in the Manchester schools and attended Iowa State University at Ames. Mr. Hermann was united in marriage June 4, 1912 to Verna Kling in Waterloo.
In addition to farming and beekeeping, he worked as a linotype operator for three years. He was a State Bee Inspector for the Iowa Dept. of Agriculture for 23 years, a member of Iowa Honey Producers, the American Bee Association and was also employed by the Louisiana Dept. of Agriculture and Entimology from 1943 to 1958 on a seasonal basis. Mr. Hermann was also a member of the Farm Bureau, Hyperion Lodge, Knights of Pythias and the Community Congregational Church.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Josephine) Frey of Des Moines, two grandsons, Marc and Brock Hermann of Manchester and one brother, John Hermann of Manchester. Mr. Hermann was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Verne, June 28, 1973, one sister and three brothers.
