Verle "Kewpie" LeClere, 79, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 26, 1999, in the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, First Presbyterian Church. Burial: Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Goettsch Funeral Home, Hopkinton.
Survivors include a brother, John of Hopkinton; and two sisters, Eunice cq LeClere of Hopkinton and Myrtillia cq Bawden of Vinton.
Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Bessie LeClere of Hopkinton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and eight brothers.
Verle LeClere was born Dec. 12, 1919, near Coggon, Iowa, the son of Henry C. and Margaret Drexler LeClere. He received his education in the Bork and Brook schools near Hopkinton. Verle then started farming with his family in South Fork Township near Hopkinton. He retired from active farming in 1999.
