John "Soldier" LeClere, 87, died Wednesday morning, April 27, 2005, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, following a brief illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, First United Church of Hopkinton with the Rev. Marti Montovani. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Hopkinton. Surviving is a sister, Myrtilla Bawden, Vinton, a sister-in-law, Bessie LeClere, Hopkinton, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and nine brothers.

John Lionel Drexler LeClere was born Nov. 29, 1917, near Coggon. He was the son of Henry and Margaret Drexler LeClere. He received his education in the Bork and Brook Schools near Hopkinton. John then started farming with his family in South Fork Township, near Hopkinton. He retired from active farming in 1999.
