Gertrude Flannagan,80, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in the Edgewood Care Center after an extended illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Hopkinton United Methodist Church. Burial: Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Hopkinton.

Surviving are three children, Diane (Doug) Kolek and Dennis (Diane) Flannagan, both of Hopkinton, and David (Diane) Flannagan of Monticello; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Doris Priebe of Parma, Ohio, La Rue Keith of Ottumwa, Dixie DeHaven of Hiawatha and Mary Haigh of Manchester; and four brothers, Mervin and Ronald Miles, both of Delhi, and LeRoy and Norman Miles, both of Hopkinton.

Her parents, her husband Franc and a sister, Winona Flannagan, preceded her in death.

Gertrude Miles was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Delaware County, Iowa, the daughter of Archie and Margaret Wilson Miles. She received her education in the Hopkinton, Buck Creek and Delhi schools. She graduated from Delhi in 1939. Gertrude became a beautician following her graduation from the Paris Academy in Cedar Rapids. She worked in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City as a beautician. During World War II Gertrude was a welder at Iowa Manufacturing. Gertrude married Franc Flannagan on March 24, 1945, atBuck Creek Methodist Church. The couple lived in Hopkinton, where Gertrude operated her beauty salon. Franc preceded her in death on March 8, 1996. Gertrude continued to work with her daughter in the beauty salon until 1998. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Miriam Circle and Legion Auxiliary.

A Gertrude Flannagan Memorial Fund has been established.
