Janie Leytem, 55, of Hopkinton, died Monday, March 12, 2007, in University Hospitals, Iowa City, following an extended illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Luke's Catholic Church, Hopkinton, with the Rev. John Kremer officiating. Interment: Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Hopkinton, with a Scripture service at 4 p.m.

Surviving are her husband, John; her mother, Georgia Lowry of Monticello; three sons, Shane and his wife, Rachel, Shannon and friend, Tiffany Delagardelle, both of Hopkinton, and Shawn and fiancee, Molly Digmann, Anamosa; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Keira.

She was preceded in death by her father; and an infant daughter, Stacy, in 1979.

Janie Sue Caspers was born Sept. 8, 1951, in John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, the daughter of Fred and Georgia Rieniets Caspers. Janie graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1970. Janie Sue Caspers and John Leytem were married Oct. 16, 1971, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Sand Springs. The couple farmed in South Fork Township, Delaware County, Iowa, near Hopkinton. Janie also operated a day care at her home for many years.

Her health forced her to give up her day care in February of 2005.

Janie was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and the Delaware County Historical Society.

She loved operating her day care, and also enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking for her boys.
