DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Shirley A. Riniker, 56, of Dyersville, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, following a short illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Donald Hertges officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a parish scripture service will be at 6 p.m.

She was born on Nov. 26, 1951, in Manchester, daughter of Clarence P. and Bernadette (McElmeel) Smith. She married Richard "Dick" Riniker on Nov. 25, 1972, in Dyersville.

Shirley enjoyed singing in the choir, shopping, spending time with family, friends and children, arts and crafts and making chocolate brownies from scratch.

Surviving are her husband, Richard; two sons, Roger Riniker, of Boston, and John Riniker, of Monticello; her mother, Bernadette Smith, of Manchester (formerly of Dyersville); siblings, Janaan (Walter) Kraus, of Monticello, Kay (Elmer) Heitz, of Farley, Kenny (Cathy) Smith, of Hopkinton, Gary (Marilyn) Smith, of Manchester, Betty (Jerry) Ries, of Earlville, John (MaryAnn) Smith, of Ryan, Mary Ellen (Jim) Waite, of Cedar Rapids, and Mark (Mary) Smith, of Marion; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth Zangerle, of Hopkinton, Marion (Dennis) Manternach, of Cascade, Don (Carol) Riniker, of Holy Cross, Stella (Paul) Helle, of Dyersville, Theresa (Jim) Richter, of Earlville, Alice (Bill) Wick, of Dubuque, and Dan Riniker, of Maquoketa.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence; a daughter, Sherry Riniker; a sister, Maxine Zangerle; and her father and mother-in-law, Art and Dorothy Riniker.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
