DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Jean K. Platz, 76, of Dyersville, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, following a long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francs Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Jerry Kopacek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Platz had worked as a checker for the National Tea Co. and J.C. Penney Co. She also worked in the meat department at the Super Valu Store in Dyersville. She retired in 1987.

She was born on May 27, 1928, in Edgewood, daughter of Florian and Henrietta (Roling) Bruggemann.

She received her grade school and high school education at St. Francis Xavier Schools.

She married Vern Platz on May 30, 1950, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville.

She was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Parish.

Surviving are her husband, Leverne, of Dyersville; and a brother, Howard (Theresa) Bruggemann, and a sister, Lila (Frank) Niday, all of Dyersville.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, John Sternhagen.

A Jean Platz Memorial Fund has been established.
