DYERSVILLE, Iowa -- Irvin F. Overman, 85, of Dyersville, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at home, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 10, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Phil Kruse officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

He was born on July 30, 1923, in Petersburg, son of Anton and Wilhelmina (Thole) Overman. He married Lucille R. Tegeler on Nov. 5, 1946, in Earlville. Together they farmed near Earlville, moving to Dyersville in 1985.

Irvin was a great husband and father who was completely dedicated to his family and was looking forward to celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary in 29 days. He loved life regardless of personal hardships and sickness. He loved to play golf, play cards and always had time to visit with friends. Irvin was a true friend.

Surviving are his wife, Lu; children, Don (Diane) Overman, of Dyersville, Jim Overman, of Lisbon, Wayne (Linda) Overman, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Dennis Overman, of Earlville, and Lori (Gary) Wessels, of Dyersville; 18 grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; a special nephew, Larry (Sue) Bonert; and sisters-in-law, Gladys Overman and Dessy Overmann, both of Dyersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janice, in infancy; two grandchildren, John David and Mark Overman; four brothers, Vincent, Aloysius, Edmund and Alfred Overman; a sister, Emma Bonert; and two daughters-in-law, Suzanne and Beth Overman.
