DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Frank D. Niday, 78, of 514 3rd St., Dyersville, died at 10:51 p.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Basilica of St. Francis Xavier, Dyersville, with the Rev. Donald Hertges officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville, where military rites will be accorded by the Dyersville American Legion Post 137 and the New Vienna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a wake service will be held at 5 p.m., an American Legion and New Vienna Veteran's of Foreign Wars service will be at 7 p.m., and a Dyersville Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

He was born on Aug. 8, 1928, in Randolf, Neb., son of William and Martha (Pickering) Niday. On Nov. 27, 1952, he was united in marriage to Lila Bruggemann, at St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville.

He received his education in the Farley area schools. He was employed with several area construction companies until his retirement.

Frank was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

He was a member St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville, a member of the Dyersville Knights of Columbus Council 1734, a member of the Dyersville American Legion Post 137, and a member of the New Vienna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736.

Frank enjoyed his time at EIMCO and the Hoffmann's very much. He loved dancing, music, playing cards and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Lila Niday, of Dyersville; three children, Judy (Russ) Miller, of Marion, Russ (Kim) Niday, of Orlando, Fla., and Dan (Maribeth) Niday, of Boone; six grandchildren, Melissa, Michelle and Deborah Miller, and Katelyn, Justin and Ryan Niday; two great-grandchildren, Rylan and Chloe; two sisters, Twila Horne, of Bradenton, Fla., and Betty Patrum, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Gene Niday; and three sisters, Wilma, Eunice and Margie.

A Frank D. Niday Memorial Fund has been established.
