DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Rebecca A. Nickol, passed away peacefully at home in Dyersville, Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, surrounded by her family. At age 46, Becky surrendered to an 11-year courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Phil Kruse. Lector will be Lori Ahern and giftbearers will be Lila Nickol and Abby Klostermann. Pallbearers will be Matt Nickol, Chris Nickol, Justin Wilhelm, Drew Sperfslage, Nathan Klostermann and Ted Kruse. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 2 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 22, 1960, in Dubuque, daughter of Earl and Marilyn (Strawn) Wilhelm.

She was a 1979 graduate of Beckman High School.

Rebecca married her high school sweetheart, John J. Nickol Sr., on Feb. 8, 1980, in Dyersville, where they raised their three beautiful children.

Her devotion and special love for babies and children was fulfilled with her in-home daycare and with working at Kid Project.

Becky enjoyed crafts of all kinds, always creating treasures. She loved decorating their home, gardening and shopping.

Rebecca will be deeply missed by her family and faithful friends and all those whose lives she touched.

Surviving are her husband, John Sr.; her mother, Marilyn Wilhelm; her father-in-law, Marvin (Rosemary) Nickol; a son, John Jr. (Heidi), of Worthington; two daughters, Lindsay, of West Des Moines, and Mallory, of Cedar Rapids, attending Kirkwood Community College; three brothers, Terry (Dona) Wilhelm, of West Des Moines, Tim (Coleen) Wilhelm, of Del Valle, Texas, and Tony (Deb) Wilhelm, of Dyersville; a sister, Karen (Bob) Klostermann, of Waunakee, Wis.; four brothers-in-law, Gerald Nickol, Melvin (Ruth) Nickol, James (Becky) Nickol and Mark Nickol; two sisters-in-law, Marlene (Steven) Wilson and Dianne (Michael) Sperfslage; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Earl, in 2002; her mother-in-law, Arlene Nickol; a sister-in-law, Glenda Nickol; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Henry Nickol, in infancy.

A Rebecca A. Nickol Memorial Fund has been established.
