Charles Burt CURRAY
Manchester, (Ia.) – Funeral services were here Monday for Charles Burt Curray, local painter, who died of carcinoma at his home on Clara Avenue Saturday; had recently submitted to an operation at University Hospital at Iowa City; son of John and Elizabeth Durling Curray, he was born Dyersville Oct. 2, 1865; married to Faye Royalty near Manchester July 15, 1915; greater part of Mr. Curray’s life was spent in Dubuque, and he came to Mancheser in 1930 with his family; Mrs. Curray died in 1926,
Mr. & Mrs. Curray were the parents of two children, Maurice (Charles), one of the first Manchester men to enlist in the naval service in recent years, who was killed in the Pacific area in August, 1942, and Mrs. Thelma Shaw, Manchester; also leaves seven sisters, Mrs. Charles Allen, Manchester; Mrs. Ivan Harnish, Central City, Mrs. Harry Cruise, Dubuque; Mrs. Minnie Grapes, Lamont, Mrs. Charles Miller, Ocheydan, Mrs. Dan Lumker, Mitchell, S. D., and Mrs. Guy Harwood, Rapid City, S. D., four brothers and two sisters who preceded him in death; he affiliated with the Methodist Church.

Notes: Maurice Charles CURRAY was aboard the cruiser U.S.S. Vincennes when on Aug. 9, 1942 ,at the Battle of Savo Sea off the coast of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands, it was caught in a night battle with a Japanese fleet and sunk.
