Manchester Press November 30, 1911

Thomas Williamson, for more than half a century a resident of Adams township, this county, died at his home near Ryan shortly after the midnight hour, November 28, 1911. Mr. Williamson was 80 years of age. The funeral will be held from the Silver Creek church tomorrow (Friday) morning at 11 o'clock, the sermon by Rev. D. C. Perry of Masonville.

Mr. Williamson was born in Ireland in 1832 and came to America in 1855, locating in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. In 1859 he was married to Miss Mary Beatty, with whom he lived happily until her death in 1897. Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Williamson removed to Iowa and settled on the homestead in Adams township so long their home. They were the parents of eleven children, of whom the following survive: Thomas, who resides in Happy, Texas; Mrs. Sarah Barnicle and Miss Anna, of Cedar Rapids; James of Ryan; William, of Washta; Mrs. Janice Pierce of Rogers, Arkansas; and Henry, whose home is in Seattle, Washington. Mr. Williamson is also survived by his second wife, formerly Mrs. Mary Reynolds. He was a brother of the late Mrs. Matilda Robinson, mother of Supervisor W. B. Robinson.

Mr. Williamson earned the respect of his neighbors and friends by an earnest and straightforward life. He had regard for the homely virtues of honesty, charity and kindly speech, and was in all respects a good citizen and helpful neighbor. By his death the Silver Creek settlement loses one of its earliest pioneers and the community an upright man."
