George Lyman
George (Dutch) Lyman, 79, lifetime resident of Prairie township, died Saturday at his home following a prolonged illness.
Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the Bohnenkamp funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Keast officiating. Burial was made in Oakland cemetery. Masonic memorial services were held Sunday evening at the funeral home.
He was born December 10, 1891, at Manchester, a son of Sanford and Nell Cowles(Cowell)Lyman. He received his education in the rural school of Prairie township and was a graduate of Manchester high school.
Mr. Lyman was married to Alice Reisner December 24, 1921, in Manchester and they engaged in farming. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of Praire Center Grange, Manchester Lodge No. 165 AF & AM, Joppa White Shrine, Cedar Rapids Consistory, and the American Legion Post No. 45. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Duane L. (Marjorie) Schiess of Manchester; a sister, Mrs. Orville (Martha) Rossow of Masonville; a granddaughter, Mrs. Larry (Susan) Diercksen of Manchester; two grandsons, Gregory L. and Mark D. Schiess, both of Manchester and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, Marilyn May; and three brothers, Archie, Clarence and Oba Lyman.
