Mrs. Oba Lyman Passes Away at Home on Sunday
Death Wins Victory after a Long Struggle Against an indidious Malady
Survived by Husband and Daughter. Funeral Services Held Tuesday.
Burial in Oakland Cemetery
A brave struggle against the ravages of an insidious and relentless malady came to a close with the death at her home in this city on Sunday morning, June 17, 1928, of Mrs. Oba Lyman. The immediate cause of death was pneumonia which followed an operation for goitre submitted to her on May 23rd at St. Francis hospital in Waterloo. However, Mrs. Lyman had been in distressingly poor health for four years and her strength had become depleted beyond the power of recuperation.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lyman were held from her late residence on Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. J.F. Moore officiating and burial was made in Oakland cemetery.
Nell, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George G. Armistead, was born on Feb. 20, 1885, in the house where her death occurred and where, fifty years ago, her parents began housekeeping. She grew to young womanhood here, attended the local schools and on May 11, 1918 was married at Waterloo to Oba Lyman. Manchester has since been the home of the family.
Surviving Mrs. Lyman are her husband, one daughter, Mary Isabelle, four years of age; a brother Hunt Armistead, of Walker; and a sister, Mrs. Belle Pitzer, of Shenandoah. Mrs. Lyman's father died April 6, 1927 and her mother November 11, 1916.
The death of this faithful wife and mother is deeply deplored by many friends of the family, who feel for the husband, daughter and other relatives the most earnest sympathy. She expended herself in loving care for her family and goes to her rest secure in the affectionate memory of many.
