Oba Lyman
Oba Lyman, who for several years conducted a restaurant on South Franklin street in this city, but of late had been a buyer of livestock died at a local hospital early Wednesday morning November 25, 1942, after a lingering illness. Mr. Lyman was nearly 54 years of age. Services will be held at the Shelly funeral home tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with burial in Oakland cemetery.
Mr. Lyman, a son of the late Sanford and Nellie Cowell Lyman was born on the parental farm in Prairie township, this county, Dec. 18, 1888, and had spent practically all of his life in this community. On May 11, 1918, he was married to Miss Nelle Armistead, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Armistead of Manchester and whose death occurred June 17, 1928. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Isabelle Lyman, an Ames college student, who makes her home with Mrs. Hunt Armistead at Sheldon, Iowa; three brothers, Archie, Clarence, and Geo. all of this place; a half sister, Mrs. Orville Rossow, and his stepmother, Mrs. Eva Lyman both of Manchester; and two stepbrothers. Lionel Snyder of this city and Geo. Snyder of Dubuque.
Because of his lifelong residence in Manchester Mr. Lyman had extended his acquaintance here and over the county widely - an acquaintance that resulted in many warm friendships. Several weeks ago he found it necessary to consult expert medical advice here and at the University hospital at Iowa City, where it was sorrowfully learned that efforts to restore him to health could not succeed. This was sad new to the friends he had made and they feel for those most deeply affected by his death sincere sympathy.
