Nov 2000Burdette R. Rodies, 86, of Manchester, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, from cancer.
Memorial services will be at 2 P.M. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home in Manchester, with Rev. David Wagner officiating. Burial of the remains will be in Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.
Burdette was born Dec. 19, 1913, in rural Oneida, the son of Robert Otto and Elizabeth (Graham) Rodies. He attended school in Delhi, and then went to work at the bakery in Manchester. Later he worked at the CCC Camp at Backbone State Park.
Burdette was united in marriage to Marie L. Spoerl on Nov. 28, 1934, at the Golden Church parsonage in Ryan. They made their home in Manchester. In 1936, Burdette started to work at the J .M. Jones and Sons car dealership as an auto mechanic. He retired in 1979 but continued to pick up and drive cars for J.M. Jones for years later. Marie died Aug. 7, 1995.
Burdette enjoyed auto racing events as well as fishing and boating at Lake Delhi and Guttenberg, and going to dances. In his later years, Burdette loved watching NASCAR racing on television and going to go-cart races. Burdette was a dedicated Ford person.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Bertie A. Rodies of Manchester.
Burdette was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie; daughter, Joan; his sister, Bernice Smith; and his brother, Wayne Rodies.
Memorials may be directed to the Delaware County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
