Early Resident Enters into Rest

Mrs. Bertha Rodies Dies at Home In West Manchester after Residence of 47 Years in County

Mrs. Bertha Rodies, one of the most estimable women of West Manchester and who for nearly half a century had resided in this country, died at her home on Oct. 4, 1937, following a stroke of paralysis, her death coming with great unexpectedness and proving a severe shock to her family and friends. Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran church on Thursday afternoon, the Rev. W. A. Adix officiating, and burial was made in Oakland cemetery .

Born in Insterburg, Germany, Mrs. Rodies grew to young womanhood in her native land and on April 22 , 1883, was united in marriage with Robert O. Rodies. On Aug. 20 , 1890 , they took boat for America and came to this country where they engaged in farming north of Manchester. While thus engaged the husband passed away Nov. 26, 1915 , and in 1917 Mrs. Rodies came to this city. For a time she lived on West Howard street, and in 1920 she and her son established a home in West Manchester.
