16 Jan 1996Wayne E. Rodies, 77, of Manchester, died Monday afternoon, Jan. 15, 1996, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, Jan.18, at First Baptist Church in Manchester with the Rev. Mike Eubnks officiating. Burial will be made in Oakland Cemetery with military grave side honors presented by Manchester American Legion Post #45 and Manchester VFW Post #6637. Visitation is at the Shelly Funeral Home after 2 P.M. Wednesday and after 10 A.M. Thursday at the church.
Wayne Ernest, the son of Robert Otto and Lizzie Elizabeth (Graham) Rodies, was born Nov. 28, 1918 at his parents' farm home in Oneida Township northeast of Manchester. Following his graduation from Manchester High School with the class of 1937, he worked for J .M. Jones for a time, then went to California where he worked for Lockheed Aircraft for about a year.
He was married to Alma Alberta "Bertie" Wolfe on March 4,1942 in Las Vegas, Nev.. Shortly thereafter, he entered the service of his country with the U.S. Navy and served in the Philippines during World War II.
Following his discharge, he returned to Manchester where he and his wife have lived since that time. He worked for JATCO Auto Transport in Independence, then in 1970 went to work for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids until retiring in1980.
He is survived by his wife; four grandchildren; one brother, Burdette Rodies of Manchester; one sister, Berniece Smith of Independence; and several nieces and nephews.
