Has anyone figured out yet where Calvin L. Boord died and where he's buried. One of his daughters was Susan A. who married a Markham. In Rice County, Kansas for the 1885 state census, C. L. Boord (79, POB=Kentucky) is living with J. B. and S. A. Markham. I do not find that he ever moved back to south central Iowa after that occurence.

I descend from Elizabeth (Boord) Jenkins, Calvin's half-sister (daughter of Susan (Gadd) Boord). Elizabeth's daughter, Mary Ann Jenkins married James William Handley (these are my great grandparents, in spite of their 1849 marriage, their daughter Maggie was/is my maternal grandmother). James William Handley had a sister named Mary who married a James Carr.

Interestingly, James and Mary Carr moved to Hoisington, Kansas, about 35 miles from where the Markhams apparently ended up, and Mary (Handley) Carr died shortly after the 1885 Kansas State Census was taken.

Whether or not the Carrs and Handleys knew of each other in Kansas is not known, but the coincidence is a bit remarkable to me.

Joe
