Thursday, March l0, l92lA former resident of Leon, Iowa, and one of the early pioneers of Decatur County, Ia., CATHERINE, daughter of HARRISON and NANCY WELDON, was born near Leon, January l, l849, departed this life after a lingering illness at her home in Tipton, Iowa, March 3, l92l, aged 72 years, 2 months and 2 days. She was united in marriage to CREED BOBBITT at Harrisonville, Mo., in the year l867. To this union 2 children were born, one of whom attained to lovely womanhood (the others dying in infancy) MRS. MARTIN THIEL, late of Tipton, Iowa.
Sister BOBBITT and husband resided in Missouri for a period of seven years, returning to Leon in l874, where they continued to reside until the death of her husband. Some time after this she removed to Tipton where she continued to reside until called by death to her Heavenly home. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Leon, having given her heart to Christ in early womanhood. She was baptized in Christ by Elder Josephus Porter. She was an earnest, devout Christian, rejoicing always in the love of her Savior. She was honored, respected and dearly loved by all who knew her.
She leaves to mourn her departure, son-in-law, MARTIN THIEL, of Tipton, Iowa, brothers and sisters as follows: A.J. WELDON, of Neodosha, Kansas; T.A. WELDON, of Miami, Okla.; MRS. CAROLINE BRUNER, of Des Moines; MRS. J.P. LONGFELLOW, of Springfield, Mo.; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ, Saturday afternoon, March 5, l92l, at 2:30, conducted by W.J. Campbell, of Davis City, assisted by P.H. Green. Favorite hymns were sung by Mrs. Cline, Mrs. W.A. Boone, Jay Colby and Walter Blakesley. The pall bearers were old neighbors and friends of the deceased and as follows: John A. Harris, Millard Gardner, J.M. Caster, J.W. Scott, Wm. Darr and Bert Woodard. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Interment in Leon Cemetery.
