Decatur County Journal
Thursday, January 20, l92l

RACHEL PAULINA HENDREN, daughter of JOHN T. and MARY ANN HENDREN, was born in Lorraine, Harrison County, Mo., June 30, l864. She was united in marriage to SAMUEL W. CHAMBERLAIN, to which union were born five children, two of whom died in infancy. At an early age she united with the Church of Christ and lived a true, upright and conscientious Christian life until her death at her home in Decatur City, Iowa, Saturday, January l5, l92l, at the age of 56 years, 8 months and ll days.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her aged husband, S.W. CHAMBERLAIN; three sons, GROVER T., JAS. F. and JACKSON C. CHAMBERLAIN; her step-son, J.S. CHAMBERLAIN; her step-daughter, ESTELLA B. JENSEN; her step-mother, ELIZA HENDREN, of Ridgeway; her three sisters, MRS. MARY RICE, Martinsville, Mo.; MRS. LILLIE MARTINSON, of Leona, Kansas, and MRS. EMMA SPICER, of Macon, Mo.; four brothers, JOSHUA B. HENDREN, of Ihlen, Minn.; THOMAS HENDREN, of Polo, Ill.; WILLIAM HENDREN, of Fargo, Okla.; and MITT HENDREN, of Bethany, Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, to all of whom she was constant and true, besides a host of friends and neighbors.

She was a noble, conscientious, sacrificing mother, a true, noble and loving companion, a cheerful, helpful, devoted friend to everyone, and who counted her friends by the score. Sacrificing, serving, striving, she was ever ministering to the needs of others and was indeed one of God's rarest gems.

The funeral was conducted from the Decatur Christian Church, Tuesday, January l8th, and burial followed in the Decatur Cemetery. Rev. Henry Esch, of Cainsville, Mo., had charge of the services. Rev. Esch paid the following tribute to the deceased:

"In all the years since first I have known Decatur City, and it has been a great many; in all the time since I have known the Christian Church in Decatur City, and it has been a great many years; no matter what be the weather outside, whether it was raining or cold or snowing, or what, nothing but sickness to herself or serious illness in her family kept MRS. CHAMBERLAIN from the place of worship and service to her God. She indeed left a heritage and example in life that we might all pattern after."

Rev. Henry Esch.
