ALBERT LINN SIMMERMAN, son of A.H. and SUSIE, was born in Linn County, Iowa, November 24, l887, and died in Des Moines, December l3, l920, aged 33 years and l9 days. In l896 his parents moved from Central City to Decatur County, locating on a farm northwest of Van Wert. Here the boy grew to manhood and worked with his father, industriously striving to make the farm bring forth the best possible results. About l908 he was married to MISS FLO KENNELL. To them was born one son, WILBER ELROY, who is at present somewhere in Oklahoma.

BERT was a hard working young man. For years he was a familiar person among the people of Van Wert.
When a young man he united with the United Brethren Church, which faith he held to the end. When the United States became involved in the World War and a call was made for volunteers, BERT made an effort to enlist, but was rejected on account of a weakness in his foot. Afterward he was drafted and after a short stay in Camp Dodge, he sailed for France to engage in the hardships of war. He took part in the St. Mihiel Battle, one of the worst of the war. He returned in June, l9l9.
Because of efficiency in service, he was given a Sergeant's warrant. He was in Co. C, 528 Engineers Corps.

On his return from the service he labored at different tasks, but nearly every night was at home with his parents. About two months ago he went to Des Moines, making that place his headquarters and worked for farmers gathering corn. He returned to Des Moines on Thursday, December 9, and on Monday the end came. All is shrouded in mystery. The family draws the fail and wait, still loving him who loved them and was a true and faithful son. The father, mother, sister and brothers with many other relatives and friends mourn his untimely death. The Father knows best and careth for his own.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation of the many kindnesses shown us during our sad hour of trial when our son was taken from us. And we wish especially to thank the boys of the American Legion for the lovely flowers and the help and encouragement they gave.
