Thursday, December 23, l920

ISAAC NEWTON BEAVERS, son of JAMES and ELIZABETH BEAVERS, was born August 29th, l847, in Pickaway County, Ohio, and departed this life at his home in Woodland, Iowa, on December l5th, l920, being 73 years, 3 months and l7 days of age.

He came with his parents from Ohio to Woodland, Iowa, in l85l, and had resided in Iowa ever since. He was married to MISS NANCY MARIA HUTCHINSON, on July 27th, l87l, who died on January 20th, l889. To this union was born one son, NOVIA S. BEAVERS, of Minneapolis, Minn., and two daughters, MRS. MINNIE ELDER, of Allerton, Iowa, and MRS. VIVIAN LOCKWOOD, of Woodland, Iowa.

He was married to NANCY ELIZABETH MARTIN of Chariton, Iowa, on November l6th, l89l. To this union was born one son, ERLE L. BEAVERS, and two daughters, MRS. ELMA BEAVERS, and MRS. CORA LANE, of Woodland, Iowa. His wife and six children and sister, MRS. B.A. RAYN, of Woodland, were all present at his bedside during his last illness.

He was baptized by Rev. Childs about eight years ago and professed and lived a Christian life since, always being a devoted husband and father to his family. His departure is mourned by his wife, six children, sixteen grandchildren, one great grandchild, and one sister, and many other relatives and friends.

June one week previous to his death, he visited his cousin, T.M. RIDDLE, who was ill with pneumonia. They were life-long friends and both succumbed to this fatal disease within a few days of each other.

He built and conducted the first store in Woodland Township in the early seventies. When the main line of the Rock Island was built through Iowa, he erected the first store building in Clio where he conducted a store and post office for some time, then moved to Leon where he and his brother-in-law, J.C. HUTCHINSON, established a general store before the Burlington Railway was extended further south than Leon.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Elba Dale, of Pleasanton on Thursday at the residence and interment made at the Lentz Cemetery and was attended by a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends who paid their last respects.
