Decatur County Journal
Thursday, January 30, l9l9

J.W. HONNOLD and wife received a message Wednesday of last week from the War Department notifying that their son, LEW HONNOLD, had been drowned while in service with the American Expeditionary Forces and that the body had been recovered. Nothing further could be learned. A message was sent to Judge Towner, Representative in Congress from this district, who made an immediate investigation and then notified the parents that no further particulars could be learned.

A cablegram had been received stating that he had been drowned on December l3th and that the body had been recovered. He was serving in the coast artillery. He enlisted at Des Moines and was stationed at Camp Dodge for some time before being sent east and then overseas. He leaves a wife and small child. The bereaved parents and the wife and child certainly have the very deep sympathy of all our people.
