Decatur County Journal
Thursday, February 20, l9l9

Friends and relatives of CARL OMER WHISLER, a former resident of this county, but now of Ridgeway, Mo., were shocked last week upon receiving the sad news that influenza had entered his home and taken three of the family, the entire family being bedfast at the same time.

The wife, JUNE STONER WHISLER, passed away on Monday, February l0th, l9l9, just a week almost to the very hour she took her bed, being 33 years, 8 months and ll days of age. The funeral was held in the Ridgeway City Park on Wednesday afternoon, attended by a very large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends.

During the funeral on Wednesday afternoon, the second son, RAY, died at 2 o'clock, being l2 years, 9 months and 29 days old. The same evening at l0:30 o'clock, the oldest son, JOE, passed away at the age of l4 years, l0 months and l5 days.

A double funeral was held for them February l3th at the Ridgeway Cemetery. There were two hearses followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends, even though the weather was very inclement. MR. WHISLER or the other two children were unable to attend the funerals. Twelve young boys acted as pall bearers at the latter funeral.

There was a profusion of floral offerings at both funerals, from St. Joseph, Mo., Leon, Iowa, besides different organizations and friends in Ridgeway. The remains were all interred in the Ridgeway Cemetery.

MR. WHISLER and the other two younger children are thought to be getting along as well as could be expected under the circumstances, and hopes are entertained for a speedy recovery. They have the sympathy of many relatives and friends in and near Leon. MR. WHISLER is a nephew of SILAS WHISLER, of this city.
