ORLANDO WHITTECAR was born in Madison County, Ohio, August 25th, l832, and died at his home in Van Wert, Iowa, July l7th, l920, being at the time of his death almost 88 years of age. He lived at the place of his birth for six years, then moved with his parents to Indiana, where he lived seven years, going from there to Illinois, where he lived until l854, when he, a young man, came to Decatur County, Iowa, where he has since resided.

In the year l856, he and MISS MARY STEEN were united in marriage, and to this union were born ten children. All but two, MRS. A.J. OWENS and CLARA WHITTECAR, both of this place, preceded the father to the life beyond. When a young man, MR. WHITTECAR was converted to Christianity and publicly confessed his faith in Christ, uniting with the Christian Church. Later in life on account of distance to the church of his choice, he united with the United Brethren Church and still later when he moved to Van Wert, he again placed his membership in the Christian Church at this place. In l862 he answered the call of his country in her hour of need and served in the l8th Iowa Infantry, Co. B.

On Monday, following his decease, the funeral services were held at his late home, conducted by his Pastor, Rev. Geo. E. Moore, after which the body was laid to rest in the Whittecar Cemetery west of town.

--A FRIEND.
