Thursday, January l, l920JOHN EDWARD, son of DAVID and SUSIE HUBBARD, was born in Decatur County, Iowa, September 5, l888, and departed this life at his home 8 miles southeast of Leon, December l2, l9l9, aged 3l years, 3 months and 7 days. He was engaged in farming in which he was very successful and when war was declared he sold his farm and disposed of his personal property and nobly enlisted his service in the world's war, May 20th, l9l8, being one of our overseas boys where he was with the 5th Army Corps, Co. A. 604th Engineers, and was stationed on the front when the armistice was signed. He returned to the United States, June 22, l9l9, and was mustered out of the service, June 28, l9l9, receiving an honorable discharge and returned to his home where he again took up his occupation of farming where he surrounded himself with this world's goods to a big extent being very successful financially.
He enjoyed the confidence and respect of all. He leaves to mourn his going, his parents, four brothers, three sisters, two nieces and numerous other relatives and hosts of friends as they were numbered by his acquaintances. The funeral was held at his home December l6, l9l9, conducted by Rev. Elba Dale, after which the body was laid to rest in the Eden Cemetery by the side of his sister, OLLIE, who died when a small child. The I.O.O.F. Lodge, of which he was a member, had charge of the grave.
