CLOSSON CAMPBELL was born in Ross County, Ohio, July l7, l832, and died September l4, l9l9, at the home of his son, J.C. CAMPBELL, being 87 years, l month and 27 days old at the time of his death.

He was raised to manhood in Ohio and married August 2, l853, to MARIETTA COOVER. To this union were born five children: MRS. SADIE MUSE, of Leon; MRS. MARY NEWMAN, of Wauneta, Wyoming; SAM CAMPBELL, of Osborn, Mo.; J.C. CAMPBELL, of Leon, and W.C. CAMPBELL, of Des Moines. Besides these he leaves sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. All were present at his bedside except MRS. MARY NEWMAN. He was preceded in death by his wife, May 9th, l9l5, since which time he has made his home with his children. He came to Iowa in l862 and eight years later bought the old homestead in Eden Township where he has lived practically ever since.

In July, l9l6, MR. CAMPBELL turned to the Lord, uniting with the Christian Church at Grand River. His last sickness was short. He took sick on Wednesday and died the Sunday following. The funeral services were conducted Monday at 3 p.m. at the Methodist Chapel in Leon, by Wm. J. Campbell. The body was buried in the Leon Cemetery by the side of his wife who had preceded him to the unseen world.
