Linda A Smith
November 06, 1947 — September 16, 2023Linda A. Smith, age 75, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines.
Linda was born November 6, 1947, in Winona, Minnesota to Oran and Opal (Smith) Allen. She was raised in Lamoni, Iowa. Her family moved from the Midwest to California when she was in the third grade. After high school, she married Robert Snethen. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War, where he lost his life. After her husband, Robert’s passing, she returned to Lamoni where she and Charles Smith connected (Charles was her first husband’s friend) and after a few years of dating they got married in August [1972]. Charles and Linda were married for 51 years.
Linda was an insurance policy writer for Employee Mutual Insurance Company before her retirement. She was a very honest and true person who did not tolerate lying. She was very loyal to her family and friends, and supportive of everyone. Linda had an adventurous spirit and was always ready for something new. She had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed learning and reading books. She was talented at crafts, especially card making. Linda loved spending time in her garden. She loved to say that the “weeds don’t stand a chance”. She was fastidious in caring for her home. She found ironing relaxing and you would never see a dirty plate left behind. Linda enjoyed shopping, but wouldn’t buy things unless they were on sale, but that didn’t stop her from trying clothing on and showing them off before not buying anything! She always looked nice and wasn’t afraid to change her outfits sometimes three or four times a day to be prepared for what she was doing.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; stepdaughter, Catherine Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Vickie and Zeke Smith; sister-in-law, Alethea Allen; and nieces and nephews.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Oran and Opal Allen; first husband, Robert Snethen; brother, Jay Allen; and brother and sister-in-law, David and Jackie Allen.
According to Linda’s wishes, there will be no services held at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice in loving memory of Linda.
