JERRY LEE HALL

Jerry Lee Hall age 55 of Leon, Iowa was born May 5, 1942 in Osceola, Iowa, the son of Ira A. and Sylvia Mae (South) Hall. He died December 17, 1997 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa.

The Hall family moved to Kellerton in 1950. After graduating from Kellerton High School, Jerry received his degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri with majors in finance and agriculture. He started work at the Decatur County State Bank in Leon as an agriculture loan officer. He then was Extension Director for Decatur County for a few years.

Jerry married Janna Ilee Van Laar on September 12, 1965 at the Methodist Church in Grand River, Iowa. Their son Kurtis was born October 16, 1969. For the past 26 years Jerry and Janna have farmed northeast of Decatur, Iowa, raising crops and livestock. He was one of the first farmers to do "no-till" farming.

Jerry was active in the community, serving on ASCS County Committee, Decatur County Fair committees and the county extension council. He always willing to help others.

His father Ira Hall preceded him in death in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Janna Hall of Leon; son Kurtis Hall of Decatur, Iowa and Kurtis' girlfriend Beth Boleyn; his mother Sylvia Hall of Decatur; sister Phyllis Sickels and husband Mack of Mount Ayr, Iowa and their children: Julie Sickels and Jim Sickels and wife Tami; brother Darrell Hall and wife Susie of Lenexa, Kansas and their children, Rob Hall and sons Jake and Bret and David Hall; parents in law, John and Verda Van Laar of Grand River, Iowa; brother in law Jack Van Laar and wife Cheryl of Leon and their sons Victor and Austin; brother-in-law, Jerle VanLaar of Grand River and his daughters, Steffanie and Tiffany; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on December 20, 1997 at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa with Rev. Dale Short and Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. l Burial was in the Van Wert Cemetery, Van Wert, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established by the family.
