BERTHA ALEXANDER (Nee HAMILTON) was born in Leon, Iowa, at the residence of the late J.P. HAMILTON, July 7, l879; and departed this life in a hospital in Leon, after undergoing a critical operation, October 5, l9l6. MRS. ALEXANDER graduated from the Leon High School with the class of l899. All of her days were spent in our midst where she was known, respected and esteemed by all.

September l4, l899, she was married to ROLLA ALEXANDER. Five children were born of the union, namely; four daughters and one son, the son dying in infancy. The surviving daughters are ABIGAIL, BERNICE, MARGARET and EUGENIA, who with the bereaved husband, seven sisters and two half-sisters and half-brothers mourn her untimely departure. The sisters are MRS. DRAKE, of Nebraska; MRS. BAKER and MRS. PICKETT, of Washington; MRS. HOPTON, of Wyoming; MRS. PIERCE, of Oregon, and MRS. CORNELIUS, of Oklahoma.

MRS. ALEXANDER in childhood was converted and joined the Baptist Church. She remained an active and faithful member of this church until some time ago when it seemed that this church could no longer maintain itself, at which time she transferred her membership to the Methodist Episcopal Church. The motto chosen by the Prince of Wales "I serve" fittingly described her devotion to these churches. In the home she was a devoted wife and mother and in the community a Christ-like example. Her life was full of beauty and all who beheld her as she went to her coronation will remember it as a time when she revealed how close had been her walk with God. Her sin went down at noon-day, but the sweetness and beauty of her life will abide with her loved ones and all who knew her forever.

The funeral services were held Saturday morning from the home, Rev. Guy Fansher, of Ogden, Iowa, a former Pastor and friend of the family, conducted the services and was assisted by Rev. Faoul R. Moser, Pastor of the Methodist Church. The burial place was in the Leon Cemetery.
