HARRY TAPSCOTT, aged twenty-nine years, second son of MR. and MRS. D.S. TAPSCOTT, was struck and instantly killed by lightning about 3 o'clock Monday afternoon while he and his youngest brother, GLENN, were cultivating corn at the TAPSCOTT farm a half mile north of Lamoni. Both of the boys had reached the end of the corn row and were close together when the fatal bolt came. GLENN, who is but thirteen years old, as quickly as he recovered from the shock covered the body of his brother with a coat and ran to the TAPSCOTT home half a mile away to summon his parents.

The two brothers were working close together. One of the horses of the team that HARRY had been driving and a mule that GLENN was working were killed by the bolt. The death was a terrible blow to the family and a sad loss to the community. HARRY had educated himself for the ministry, having graduated two years ago from the Missouri State University. He had preached a great many times for the Methodist congregation at Lamoni and was a bright young man with a most promising future. He had been active in Sunday School and other church work. He will be greatly missed. He was a fine young man, popular with all who knew him. The bereaved family have the deepest sympathy of the entire county.
