EDMOND B. BARRETT

BARRETT, MALONE, DALE

EDMOND BARRETT was born March l2, l836, in
Otsego County, New York, and
died at the home of his son, F.L. BARRETT,
Leon, Iowa, at the age of 79
years, l0 months and 7 days. He came west at
the age of l8 years. He
served three years in the civil war,
enlisting in Company K. 3rd
Missouri Cavalry. He was transferred later
to the 7th Missouri Cavalry
where he served until the close of the war.
April lst, l866, he was
united in marriage to MARTHA A. MALONE, of
near Princeton, Mo. To this
union six children were born, five of whom
are living: W.A. BARRETT,
Oklahoma; MRS. J.B. DALE and J.H. BARRETT
residing on farms south of
Leon, F.L. BARRETT and MRS. T.A. ELWELL, of
Leon. All but WILL being
with him in his last sickness, which was of
short duration, doing all
loving hearts and willing hands could do for
him.

He settled on the BARRETT farm south of Leon
soon after his marriage
where he resided until the last year, which
has been spent with the
children, his wife having passed away May
2nd, l9ll. He was of Quaker
faith being baptized about thirty years ago.
He was a man of few words
yet never failing to respond in helping a
neighbor or any one in need.
He was honest and just in his dealings with
his fellow men. He was a
kind father and a loving husband; there was
no place like home. He never
was away from home any length of time.
Besides his children, he is
survived by l7 grandchildren, one great
grandchild, also one nephew
residing in New York.

Interment in East Salem Cemetery. The
services were in charge of the
G.A.R. at Leon, and Rev. G.T. Ronk, of the
Brethren Church preached the
funeral sermon at East Salem Chapel.

The family of the deceased wish to publicly
express their gratitude for
the kindness of their many friends at this
sad hour.
