NETTIE BARLEAN, wife of DANIEL BARLEAN, a
highly respected citizen of
Woodland Township, living five miles
southeast of Leon, dropped dead at
8:45 o'clock Sunday evening, January 2, l9l6.
She appeared to be in the
best of health and had been visiting with
friends over the telephone but
a few minutes before stricken. The neighbors
at once responded to aid
the bereaved family.

NETTIE ARNOLD, youngest daughter of DANIEL
and AMANDA ARNOLD, was born
in Monroe County, Iowa, August 20, l866. She
was married to DANIEL
BARLEAN December l4, l884. To this union
were born ten children: DORA
BREESE, who lives at Holyoke, Colo., JOHN,
GEO., PEARL, WALTER, FLOYD
and RUTH at home, three having died in
infancy. Besides the sorrowing
husband and children there also mourns her
passing, an aged mother, MRS.
AMANDA CASTLE, of Newton, Kansas. Two
sisters, one brother, three
half-brothers and four grandchildren, besides
a host of relatives and
friends.

MRS. BARLEAN united with the Baptist Church
in Wayne County thirteen
years ago. Later she moved her membership to
Betchel. She was a
devoted wife, a loving mother and a kind
neighbor. Her life was one of
practical Christianity and was spent in doing
good to those about her.
As a neighbor and friend she was true and
kind with ready sympathy in
trouble and a genial nature won for her many
friends. Interment at
Manchester Cemetery.
