Decatur County Journal
Thursday, September l2, l9l8

MILTON M. RHEA was born in Mercer County,
Missouri, January 23rd, l864
and departed this life at Leon, Iowa,
September 5, l9l8, aged 54 years,
seven months and twelve days.

On September l4, l885, he was married to
MARGARET ELLEN LOCK, of Mercer
County, Mo., to which union one child was
born, HELENA GERTRUDE RHEA,
now grown to womanhood, who together with her
mother are left to mourn
the loss of a kind and indulgent father and
husband. He also leaves his
aged father, M.C. RHEA, and one sister, EVA
RHEA, of Leon, Iowa, and one
brother, W.J. RHEA, of Hobart, Oklahoma, and
a host of relatives and
friends who keenly felt that death has taken
from them a good son, a
loving brother and a noble man, neighbor and
friend.

MR. RHEA has not been in good health for the
past two years but his
serious illness began in January of the
present year, although after a
few weeks he resumed his former work and
moved from Redfield to Decatur,
Iowa, where he took charge of a farm.
However, but a short time had
elapsed when he found it necessary to give up
his farming and move to
Leon where he could have the necessary skill
and attention but his
disease baffled the best medical skill and
continued in its ravages
until after weeks of the most intense
suffering through all of which his
patience, kindness and appreciation was ever
present, he succumbed to
the inevitable.

While he was of a retiring disposition yet
all who knew him speak in the
highest terms of his honest upright
character, his supreme devotion to
his family and his strict adherence to the
Golden Rule.

During his last sickness he professed his
faith in his maker and made
peace with his God, to whom he has now gone
for his reward. His remains
were taken to Goshen, Mo., where the services
were conducted by Rev.
Flannery, of the Christian Church of Leon,
and the body interred in the
old home cemetery where his mother, five
brothers and two sisters are
buried.
