Decatur County Journal
Thursday, April l3, l9l6

PRISCILLA WESTFALL was born in Meigs County,
Ohio, January 25th, l840,
and died at her home near Weldon, Iowa, March
27th, l9l6, aged 76 years,
2 months and 2 days.

She was married to ASHTON HALL October ll,
l857. To this union were
born two children: WILLIAM HALL and MRS. ELLA
JAMISON. Her husband died
in l864 at Fort Donaldson, Tennessee, while
serving in the Civil War.

On October l9th, l865, she was married to
JOHN M. WALLACE. To them were
born five children, FRANK C., JOHN E., MRS.
JENNIE WADE, FRED E., and
EDGAR H. Besides her children she leaves ten
grandchildren, six
brothers and four sisters and many more
distant relatives. Her husband
died June 24, l907.

Thus has ended the life work on earth of
another splendid woman, a
loving wife and mother, a loyal and steadfast
friend and neighbor. The
graces of her heart were many, her virties
shone brightly in her daily
life and truly can it be said of her, to know
her was to love her. In
disposition she was so sweet and charming, so
thoughtful and kind to
all, making friends every day and idolozed by
her children.

Early in life she joined the M.E. Church in
Knox County, Illinois, and
all her life was true to its reading. The
funeral services were
conducted by Rev. Laird, Tuesday, March 28th,
at the Hebron Church, and
her body tenderly laid to rest beside her
husband in the Hebron
Cemetery. Appropriate music was furnished by
Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Stevens,
Mrs. Harry Woodbury, Mrs. Carl Kline, and Mr.
C.R. Mitchell. Beautiful
flowers were in abundance. Those acting as
pall bearers were John A.
Westfall, W.D. Westfall, Charles Mitchell,
W.T. Mitchell, L.G. Jamison
and H.S. Ritter.

Poor withered hands that
nearly

Four score years

Have wrought for others,
soothed

the burst of tears;

Rocked children's cradles;
eased the

fever's smart;

Dropped balm of love in many
an

aching heart;

Now stirless; folded like wan
rose

leaves pressed

Above the snow and silence of
her

breast,

In mute appeal they tell of
labors

done,

And well-earned rest which at
set

of sun.

From the worn brow the lines
of

care have swept,

As if an angel's kiss, the
while

she slept,

Had smoothed the cob-web
wrinkles

quite away,

And given back the peace of

childhood's day.

And on the lips the faint
smile

almost says,

None know life's secrets but
the

happy dead.

So gazing where she lies we
know

that pain

And parting cannot cleave her

soul again.
