Obituary from Leon newspaper

Margaret Maria Finch, daughter of L. B. and Sarah Finch, was born October 27, 1866, and passed away at her home September 19, 1944. Maggie, as she was known to her many friends, was the sixth child of a family of nine.

She joined the New Salem Baptist church early in life, and continued in that faith the remainder of her life. In recent years she attended the Brethren church in Leon.

She married Ruben Royal Peters on December 1, 1889. Mr. Peters preceded her in death March 11, 1928. Their six children are all living: Mrs. Esther Grandstaff, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Mrs. Annie Bunch, Decatur; Henry Peters, Mountain Grove, MO; Oran Peters, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Clay Peters, Farragut Village, Idaho and Fay Peters, Decatur. She also leaves 22 grandchildren, including 11 grandsons in service. Her parents, one sister, two brothers and one grandson preceded her in death. Surviving brothers and sisters are Byron Finch, near Salt Lake city, Utah; Mrs. Jane Lillie, Leon; Albert Finch, Albuquerque, N. M.; Isaac Finch, King City, Missouri; Mrs. Ella Boren, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Seven great-grandchildren also survive.

All of her life was spent in Decatur county except a few years spent in Oklahoma, Missouri and Wyoming. She was called Grandma Peters by many who knew her.

Three of her children were at her bedside, Esther Grandstaff, Annie Bunch and Fay Peters. She dearly loved children, and during her last illness, although suffering severely, she enjoyed watching her little friends playing on the floor by her bedside. She often expressed her willingness to go when the Lord called her, and her last words were, "I want to go to heaven."

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Miles Taber were held from the Stewart Funeral Home in Leon, Thursday, September 21, 1944. Mrs. G. B. Larson and Miss Imogene Frost sang three hymns, accompanied by Miss Betty Taber. Burial was in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
