Decatur County Journal
Thursday, October 2l, l9l5

LAURA JANE CRAFT was born in Van Wert, Iowa,
March 2, l862. Died at her
home October ll, l9l5, aged fifty-three
years, seven months and nine
days. She was married to L.F. POND, November
20, l879, at Van Wert,
Iowa, where they lived one year then moved to
Garden Grove where they
lived until nine years ago, when they came to
Lucas where she remained
until her death.

To this union were born six children, all of
whom are living except an
infant son who died eight years ago. The
children are: MRS. MAUDE
WILKIE of Corydon, Iowa, CLAUDE H. POND,
Corydon, Iowa, L.E. POND,
Oskaloosa, Iowa, MRS. ORA QUAYLE, Ottumwa,
Iowa, AND WILLARD RALPH who
is still at home. Beside the children,
husband and eight grandchildren,
she leaves an aged mother and step-father and
one brother all of whom
reside in Van Wert, Iowa.

At the age of seventeen she received Christ
into her life as her
personal Savior at which time she became a
member of the Christian
Church. When she moved to Garden Grove,
Iowa, she transferred her
letter to the Methodist Episcopal Church
where her letter remained until
one year ago last winter when by a
reconfession of faith she became a
member of the Lucas Methodist Episcopal
Church. She rejoiced in the
hope of salvation to the last. She often
requested those around her to
sing and at times sang herself. She spoke of
realizing the joy of
Heaven and seeing the golden streets. Her
life went out with a
brightness that made all around her rejoice
even in the midst of sorrow.

The funeral sermon was conducted at the M.E.
Church, Lucas, Iowa,
Wednesday, October l3 by former Pastor, Rev.
Y.H. Perkins of Decatur,
Iowa. The remains were taken to Garden Grove
where they were met by a
large crowd of friends and relatives,
interment being made in that
cemetery. Short services were held at the
grave by Rev. Wilson where
all took a last look at the remains of one
who was loved by all.
