Mary A. Hinds.

Mary A. Bright was born in Augusta county, Virginia, September 27, 1829, and died at her home in Leon, Iowa, May 7th. At an early age she moved with her parents to Gallia county, Ohio, where she grew to womanhood. In 1848 she married Jacob Hinds and in a few years they came to Iowa and settled on a farm in the south part of Woodland township. They were among the pioneers of that settlement, which was made up of Ohio people.

They lived on the farm until the death of Jacob Hinds in 1882. The next year she moved to Leon where she resided until the time of her death. She was the last survivor of a hardy Virginia family. Two of her brothers, Jacob Bright and Solomon Bright, were for many years residents of Decatur county, both having died here in recent years. The other brothers remained in Ohio and Virginia.

She has for forty years been a member of the Advent Christian church, and had lived a life consistent with her faith. She was a great favorite with all of her friends and acquaintances, both old and young, who mourn her departure. She had no children of her own but raised a boy, William Hinds, who now lives at Fruita, Colorado.

Funeral services were held at the Advent Christian church by Elder McNett of Mount Ayr, after which she was tenderly laid to rest in the Union cemetery in Morgan township to await the resurrection morn.
