Leon, Decatur County, IowaConnie Lynne (Bankus) Hines, daughter of Wayne Hays Bankus and Ruth Bernice (Dykstra) Bankus was born January 22, 1943 in Knoxville, Iowa and passed from this life Friday, April 20, 2018, surrounded by her family at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at 75 years of age.
Connie grew up on a farm north of Chariton, she was a member of the Chariton High School Class of 1960. She married her high school sweetheart, Dick Hines, on December 31, 1959 in Princeton, Missouri. They began their family and life together starting in Chariton, then living in and around Cedar Rapids for nearly a decade before purchasing the farm East of Weldon in 1969. Connie enjoyed operating the farm with Dick by becoming an excellent bookkeeper and knowledgeable cattle "girl". She took care of the mowing/flowers/trees around the homestead - all while teaching her 3 kids the finer points of how important family is and how to truly love one another. After the 3 kids grew up and left the nest, Connie went to work at Head Start in Leon, where she continued to enjoy and nurture children. She also had fun traveling to many wonderful places with the Grand River Mutual group, who she enjoyed and adored, making many close friends along the way.
She relaxed by sitting on the porch, drinking coffee watching the baby calves running and playing. Connie was a great cook, always trying new recipes, while keeping the cherished family recipes close to heart and the dinner table. She was a very proud and active member of the Weldon Community. She modeled in the Weldon Style Shows, served at the Weldon Community Center, coached little league and was a member of the Weldon United Methodist Church and played piano for many years. A Weldon resident said of Connie... "Weldon has lost a beautiful woman and we will greatly miss her."
Connie served on the American State Bank Rural Advisory Board, she enjoyed shopping with her daughter, and was a fan of all sports. Her favorite teams were the Iowa State Cyclones, the New England Patriots, and the Texas Rangers. Connie retired after many years as the Weldon Postmaster. Connie and Dick spent many winter months in Texas, close to their daughter. Connie was a genuine, sincere person that anyone could talk to and befriend. She found the good in everyone she came across in her walk through life; someone we can all aspire to be like. Connie always had a positive and happy attitude, she was a fighter and despite her illness, she was gracious, appreciative and thankful to everyone. She was beyond a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be missed by everyone who was blessed to know her. Connie was the heart of their family. Her beauty and love is evident through her children. In her memory, please remember to always be humble and kind, loving, caring and sharing.
Those relatives who preceded Connie in death were her parents,Wayne and Ruth Bankus; parents-in-law, R. Dick and Esther Hines; brothers-in-law, Larry Spurgeon and Randy Hines; nephew, Bill Bankus.
Connie leaves to cherish her memory; loving husband of 58 years, Dick Hines of Weldon, IA, son, Scott (Diane) Hines of Des Moines, IA, son, Mark (Beth) Hines of Jewell, IA, daughter, Jody (Carl) Dickinson of Bedford, TX, grandchildren, Chris (Morgan Nahas Vigon) Hines of Des Moines, IA, Travis Hines of Des Moines, IA, Brandy Davis of Osceola, IA, Brook Davis of Osceola, IA, Cole Dickinson of Bedford, TX, Doug Dickinson of Chicago, IL, Dawn (Steve) Rush of Collinsville, OK, great grandchildren, Jackson Hines, Ally Dickinson, Kaden Rush, Talan Rush, Adelyn Rush, brothers, Fred (Donna) Bankus of Pella, IA, John (Mary) Bankus of Indianola, IA, and Paul Robin Bankus of Glenwood, IA as well as other relatives and many many friends.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Weldon United Methodist Church or the Weldon Christian Church or the Weldon Community Center.
Visitation at Kale Funeral Home, Osceola, Iowa, from 5 to 7 p.m. April 25, 2018. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2018 at Kale Funeral Home, Osceola. Lunch follow committal at Weldon Community Center, Weldon, Iowa.
