Death of C. N. Sprague.

Clarence N. Sprague, the well known jeweler of Sequim [Washington], died at his home here early on Monday morning of typhoid fever after several weeks illness.

He was takem sick while out on a camping trip in the mountains last month, and was brought home with considerable difficulty. Although he had the best of medical care and nursing during his illness he succumbed to the disease after a hard struggle against death.

The funeraltook place in the Methodist church here on Tuesday, impressive services being conducted by a Seattle minister, Rev. J. A. Henry, a friend of the family.

The funeral was largely attended. The local I. O. O. F. lodge, of which Mr. Srague was Noble Grand, attended, as did also the Rebekah lodge. The church choir sang appropriate hymns and the casket was heaped with goquets of flowers, the gifts of numerous neighbors and friends. Burial took place in the Dungenness cemetery owing to the fact that the new Sequim cemetery is not in shape yet for use as a burial ground.

The death of Mr. Sprague removes a good and useful citizen from Sequim. Known as an enterprising and public spirited business man of splendid character he was well thought of and universally respected in this community and had been selected last week by citizens as their candidate for mayor at the election held next month.

Mr. Sprague was 32 years old and was born in Illinois. He was engaged in business in Iowa and Illinois and eastern Washington before moving here in 1911. He invested in land here and build a nice home and established a jewelry business.

Surviving him here he leaves a widow and two children, his father, mother and several other relatives.

Clarence Newell Sprague was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Sprague, of Sequim; was born in Bureau county, Illinois, June 20, 1881, and died September 22, 1913, aged 32 years, 3 months and 2 days. In 1883 his parents came west and settled in Leon, Decatur county, Iowa. He finished school at that place at the age of 19 years. He attended college at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and also at Iowa City, Iowa.

He was married to Laura Edith Hamilton, of Leon, Iowa, in 1900. To this union were born, Audrey and Newell. He was converted and joined the Presbyterian church in 1896. He has always been an unselfish character; always thinking of the good of others. He moved with his family from Chicago to Sequim in 1911 and followed his profession as a jeweler till the time of his death.

He was loved and respected by all who knew him and leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn his departure.
