NANCY L. HATFIELD, daughter of ALEXANDER and
SARAH COX was born in
Jackson County, Indiana, April 3, l835, and
departed this life at Leon,
Iowa, March 20, l9l5, aged 79 years, ll
months and 20 days.

At the tender age of ll years she was bereft
of a father's care. She
with her mother's family, removed to Iowa,
Decatur County, in l85l, when
the county was sparsely settled and endured
the hardships and privations
so common to the pioneer life.

On August ll, l853, she was united in
marriage with H.H. HATFIELD, at
Leon, Iowa, and to this union were born l0
children: A.J., I.M., G.W.,
HERBY M. H.L., A.B., C.A. and MARRIETTA,
HANNA and SARAH.

HANNA and HERBY preceded the mother to the
better world. The most of
her family were premitted to be present at
the funeral. She is survived
by her aged husband, 8 children, 35
grandchildren, l5 great
grandchildren, two brothers, S.L. COX, of
Leon and MARTIN COX, of
Philipsburg, Kansas, and other relatives.

In l853 deceased united with the Baptist
Faith and has ever lived a true
and devoted Christian. So we mark the
passing away of one of the oldest
and most respected settlers of Decatur
County. The funeral services
were held at Bethel Church, March 23, l9l5,
conducted by Rev. Dale,
speaking from Rev. 22:5, "And there shall be
no night there, and they
need no candle, neither light of the sun, for
the Lord God giveth them
light and they shall reign for ever and
ever."

The form was tenderly laid to rest in Bethel
Cemetery, near her old
home. There to rest until the morning of the
great resurrection.
