Obituary ~ Logan Ray Gilliland
June 13, 2000 ~ May 17, 2017

Lamoni Chronicle
Lamoni, Decatur County, Iowa

Logan Ray Gilliland, age 16, of Lamoni, Iowa was born June 13, 2000, in Leon, Iowa. He died in a motor vehicle accident near his home on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.

Logan grew up with his grandparents on their farm outside of Lamoni. He was currently finishing up his sophomore year at Lamoni High School. Throughout his school years Logan participated in soccer, football, track, basketball and baseball, which he especially loved and has played since tee-ball.

Logan was an imaginative and creative child, which continued into his teen years. He was an inventor and a dreamer, who always customized his toys and was currently working on customizing his truck. He loved to hang out with his friends at the Lamoni Community Center parking lot riding his skateboard, listening to music, and just catching up with his friends. He also enjoyed hunting, shooting guns, riding four-wheelers, paintball, and airsoft.

He recently became determined to become healthier, and was very successful in doing so, and was an inspiration to others. He started working at Hy-Vee, where the customers loved him and enjoyed his bright smile. Logan loved to joke around and was a prankster.

Logan loved spending time with his family and especially looked forward to family get togethers as that meant extra time with his cousins who were like brothers and a sister to him. Logan shared a bond with his brother Landon that was undeniable and special like no other. They were as close as two brothers could be. Logan included Landon in everything he did and you rarely saw Logan without Landon.

Preceding him in death were his great grandparents, Herman and Jacqueline Lane and grandpa, Bobbie Gilliland.

Survivors include his grandparents and guardians, Stanton and Melanie Lane of Lamoni; mother, Gina Lane, and fiancé Damon Eakes of Lamoni; father, Travis Gilliland and wife, Kera, of Ridgeway, Missouri; brothers, Landon Gilliland and Layton Swigart; aunts and uncles, Tisha and Lonnie Swigart of Lamoni, Brandon Lane of Camdenton, Missouri, Amber and Brent Crozier of Corning, Iowa, and Jessica and Courtney Hulett of Camdenton, Missouri, great grandparents, William and Normalea Barnett; grandma, Debbie Gilliland; many cousins, including Cody, Bryce, Cade, Brianna, and Brody; and other relatives and many, many friends. Logan will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at the Lamoni Community of Christ Church in Lamoni, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa. Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home.

A memorial fund for Logan has been established by the Family at Bank of the West, Lamoni branch.
